Max Payne remakes and Control spin-off ready for full production

Finnish studio Remedy today published a financial report for investors for the third quarter of this year. It covers the period until the end of September, so we do not yet have information on sales of Alan Wake 2, which was released a few days ago, and the head of the company Tero Virtala did not want to comment on them. However, we do have information about current projects that the developers are working on. And there are many of them.

Alan Wake 2 will continue to receive patches and content post-launch, including two paid expansions, Night Springs and Lake House, due out next year. However, only part of the team is expected to work on them; most of the developers will move on to other projects.

One of them is Control 2, a continuation of the 2019 third-person action game that united the entire Remedy Connected universe. The game is currently in the proof of concept stage. Plans are said to be very ambitious and development is progressing well, but the project should remain in the proof-of-concept phase for a few more quarters.

On the other hand, Condor, the co-op multiplayer spin-off of Control, has progressed from the proof-of-concept phase to the stage where the project is ready for full production (“production ready”, the goal being to create a playthrough of the game in final quality) within the third quarters.

It’s quite surprising that the same shift has occurred in the remakes of the first two Max Payne games, although this is Remedy’s youngest project, having been announced in April last year.

The latest game is a project codenamed Vanguard, a free-to-play cooperative PvE shooter. It’s been in development for quite some time now, but is still in the proof-of-concept phase, which Remedy would like to complete by the end of this year. Negotiations are currently underway on the next stages of development with publishing partner Tencent.
