In a recently published article for Insider Gaming, veteran insider Tom Henderson shared the latest information about the as-yet unconfirmed multiplayer game in the Far Cry universe. The game, codenamed Project Maverick, was originally supposed to be created as part of the upcoming seventh installment, but Ubisoft abandoned it. finally decided to make a separate titledevelopment of which will continue under the leadership of leading studio Ubisoft Montreal.
From a gameplay point of view this should be an extraction shooter, which takes the player to a fictional world called Alashnitsa, which, however, is largely inspired by Alaska. The game is supposed to pay a lot of attention to exploring the environment and finding resources from which you will subsequently produce various tools, including weapons. After this, you can hide the collected loot in your own shelter. There is also the purchase of perks and a gradual upgrade system.
Henderson further notes that the game will work with permadeath mechanics. In practice, this should mean that if you die during your travels and individual contracts, you will lose all equipment except the items you have hidden in said safehouse.
Finally, Henderson mentions that Far Cry’s multiplayer will be released before the full seventh volume. The launch date is currently set for April 2025. However, due to the potential for delay, take this date with a grain of salt.
