First screenshots and foreign impressions of the Frostpunk 2 strategy

More than two years after the announcement of the frosty strategy Frostpunk 2 from the Polish studio 11 bit, we finally received details about the gameplay itself, including the first screenshots. Select foreign media (eg IGN, Wccftech) had the opportunity to take part in an interactive presentation where the developers demonstrated a sandbox mode called Utopia Builder. Of course, story scenarios will also be included, but the creators did not want to talk about them yet.

The game takes place 30 years after the events of the first game. The worst of the frost has passed, and although it will still pose some threat, attention is now turning elsewhere, to the city itself and its inhabitants. After all, the main slogan is no longer “The city must survive”, but “The city must not fall.” Humanity gradually recovered and began to build a new society. Which direction it goes is up to you.

Based on first impressions and statements from the developers themselves, politics seems to be the central theme of the entire game. You will participate in city council meetings and then vote on individual issues. There are two main groups in the city, and your relationship with them will be very important (if they don’t like you, they can kick you out of the council): the Engineers, who prefer technical solutions, and the Reapers, who survive outside the cities and are skeptical of technology. Gradually, some extreme branches will develop from both groups, for example, in the case of engineers, these are Technocrats. The morality of your decisions will again be a factor, just like in previous 11-bit games.

Construction, of course, will not be absent either, but it will be presented on a much larger scale than in the original game. Instead of separate buildings, we already have different areas of the city at our disposal, at the same time we have to take care of a functioning economy – maintaining a balance between supply and demand. Also, the time period will be much longer; instead of tens of days, tens and hundreds of weeks await us.

Wccftech magazine also took an interest in the technical side, namely the FSR 3 technology (that is, scaling and frame generation), which the game should support. 11-bit developers highly value cooperation with AMD. They say the implementation is really simple and works great. We don’t know yet if we’ll also see support for DLSS and XeSS.

Frostpunk 2 is coming to PC and is due out in the first half of next year. We don’t know the exact release date yet.
