Jim Ryan will step down as head of PlayStation next year

It’s been over 4 years since Jim Ryan served as President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (and therefore the entire PlayStation brand). He has been with SIE since 1994 and gradually rose to the position of senior manager, succeeding John Coder in April 2019. But he won’t stay in office for too long.

Renowned journalist Jason Schreier Twitter wrote that, according to two Bloomberg sources, Jim Ryan is resigning as head of SIE. Shortly after, we received a full article confirming the news. The email, addressed to Sony employees, reached Bloomberg.

We’ve learned that Ryan will retire in March 2024. He will be replaced starting in April by Hiroki Totoki (who will become chairman of SIE in October), who currently serves as president and chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Sony (the parent company, not SIE). However, he will only serve as PlayStation CEO on an interim basis to help find a real successor.

The reason for Ryan’s departure is primarily the great difficulty of combining work in North America and living in Europe. “PlayStation will always be a part of my life, and I’m more optimistic than ever about the future of SIE,” Ryan said in a statement.
