Life doesn’t always have to be fair, and that’s why we players love escaping into a virtual world where everything makes sense and we feel like the universe is in perfect balance. But is it always there? Because there are titles that feed off your suffering and are rightfully considered difficult. But some people like it, perhaps too much. At this point, a difficult title can become completely unfair. It’s unfair to the point where you’ll curse the developers and break things around you. And it doesn’t matter whether it’s unfair intentionally, unintentionally, or just a mistake made somewhere. If at some point the game is unfair to the players, then today it will appear in our selection of TOP games that are absolutely unfair.

What better place to start than with the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 1989. We’re entering the era of NES gaming. Until the games got really unfair. At the time, game development was still in its infancy, and studios didn’t quite know how to handle it. Alternatively, with their complexity, they wanted to increase the playing time and thus force you to throw coins into slot machines, which were still quite common at the time. So there was nothing special about the fact that games then could only be completed by trial and error. And the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a great example of this.

These four turtles were important not only to its story, but also to the gameplay and especially to the levels themselves. They were nearly invincible if you decided to fill them with the wrong turtle. This was not helped by the fact that the turtle could be permanently lost during the game. The death of the turtle could become a significant complication for you in the following levels, when because of it you simply got stuck for several hours and could not continue.

And besides the fact that the game was unfair, it was also difficult. Damn hard. Be sure to not forget to mention the water level. Of these, most players still suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.
