After many months and trials, Microsoft has found common ground with the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). The one finally granted preliminary approval for the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Yesterday it was reported that the final opinion of British officials will be known next week. Meanwhile, Activision Blizzard’s Lulu Cheng Meservey announced on social media X that they have received preliminary approval..
“The CMA’s preliminary approval is great news for Activision Blizzard’s future partnership with Microsoft. We are pleased that the CMA has responded positively to the proposed solutions. Together we will continue to work to complete the regulatory review process.” she stated Lulu Cheng Meservey.
UK is the last obstacle to historic acquisition $68.7 billion. Microsoft responded to UK concerns about cloud dominance and agreed with Ubisoft on what has provided streaming rights to all current and new Activision Blizzard games for PC and consoles., which will be released in the next 15 years. Ubisoft will offer Activision Blizzard games to Ubisoft+ subscribers.
“As part of the restructured deal, Microsoft will no longer be able to exclusively release Activision Blizzard games on its own cloud streaming service, Xbox Cloud Gaming, nor will it be able to exclusively control the licensing terms of Activision Blizzard games to competing services.” said Microsoft President Brad Smith when announcing the deal with Ubisoft.
British authorities have confirmed that the deal with Ubisoft solved most of the problems. At the same time, consultations were launched, which should last until October 6, after which the KMA will make a final decision.
In July of this year, the management of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard took more time to establish connections. They must complete the acquisition. until 10/18/2023.
