Sometimes, to fix everything bad, you need to start all over again.
The Mortal Kombat series has received a new beginning. The entire reboot of the story is based on the end of the previous volume and its expansion, where Liu Kang defeated the defeated Titan Kronika. Thanks to its destruction, Liu Kang is able to take over a new timeline in which he controls the titan’s power and is able to correct previous mistakes.
Since he knows full well who was behind the worst events in the Mortal Kombat world, he must ensure that Shang Tsung does not pull the strings and meet with the ruler Shao Kahn, who has always managed to subjugate Outworld in the past. And most importantly, Liu must ensure that Shang Tsung or Shao Kahn do not team up with the evil wizard Quan Chi and form the Deadly Alliance, which has proven capable of standing up to the gods themselves.
Peaceful life plan Liu Kang successful he managed to keep up because he orchestrated the entire new timeline so that the worst villains would never be encountered and thus could be controlled. However, we soon learn that another player will join the new timeline, who remembers the times before the restart and is pulling the strings so that a similar Armageddon will be repeated, as in the previous parts. This Mortal Kombat entry is the best story-driven we’ve ever seen in the series.
There’s no need to reveal more information about the main plots, maybe you can just look forward to playing with time, mixing characters and their destinies, and it all fits together nicely. Thanks to the new dynamics, the story is much deeper and offers more possibilities. twice as long as the previous part.
Each of the newly introduced characters gave absolutely excellent performances, in contrast to previous episodes where the ridiculous pretense of heroism seemed almost comical. At the same time, the script for their characters is also written excellently. For example, such a talkative alpha male Johnny Cage in this work is also a dude, but much more natural. And almost every line he utters will bring a smile to your face without the cringe meter beeping.
Even classic villains from previous installments like Baraka and Reptile are given unconventional depth. I used to think of them as just strong annoying bastards, but now I was much more interested in them and even had a sympathetic effect on me. So much so that you need to know more about these characters after finishing the game!
Of course, we’re not just interested in the story, because Mortal Kombat is about knocking the spine out of the body. Even the battle thus brings a lot of news. Cameo assistants are definitely the biggest. During each battle you can choose one of the additional fighters, which will help you in your skirmishes.
We could already experience something similar in Mortal Kombat 9, where the fights took place in a style known to us from Tekken Tag or from wrestling itself, where after a symbolic slap in the face your comrade enters the stage. However, in Mortal Kombat 1 there are not two people playing at the same time, but only one as the chosen character, and during the battle he can call an assistant who will run up and deal one of the three attacks you choose. These companions complement not only regular combat, but also combination attacks in moments when you catch an enemy or help in calling a fatal ultimatum.
I have to say that visually it looks amazing, where you don’t have to be alone to break a spine, and someone can freeze your opponent to make the crotch wound hurt even more. These cameo helpers are a mechanic that some will love and others will hate.
