Publisher Electronic Arts has published the next part of the Behind the Sims program, in which it is dedicated to The Sims series. In it, developers from the Maxis studio officially confirmed that the upcoming The Sims 5, which currently has the working title Project Rene, will be built on a free-to-play model. In practice, this means that the base game will be free, but players will pay for various add-on packs and microtransactions.
But we’ll have to wait for the exact monetization structure, which EA calls free to download. However, given The Sims 4’s recent move to free-to-play, this is a logical and expected move. The development of The Sims 5 was announced in October last year, when the authors also admitted that they we’ll be waiting a long time for the finished game. Since we don’t even know an approximate date yet, we can expect a release at the end of next year or even later.
