Hardware news No. 11 – tests of new graphics from AMD and tips for speeding up Windows Explorer

The holidays are over, and so is the cucumber season. Most players were sitting in the cockpit of Starfield or beating the third act of Baldur’s Gate, while we shed some light on the new hardware as part of the PCTuning tests. There was also a lot of news and advice.

Let’s start this time with reviews. AMD has released new Radeon RX 7800 XT and 7700 XT graphics cards. We took the stronger of the two and tested it, for example, in Cyberpunk 2077 tests in F1 22 without ray tracing or in GTA 5. The results can be read here.

We also tested the MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk WIFI motherboard. If you want the best base for Ryzen but still want to save money, this could be an interesting choice.

We also contacted Microsoft. We were talking specifically about Windows, where we won’t see Wordpad anymore. Microsoft will insist on using paid Word, but other free alternatives remain. We found the built-in file manager to be easy to speed up. This is probably a bug, but perhaps Microsoft will tag it as a feature. And what’s interesting is that we have Windows in Windows in… Windows. There are actually five layers, and it’s completely useless to you, but as a demonstration of virtualization, this experiment served quite well.
