Actors Guild of America SAG-AFTRA they will vote for extension of strikes to the video game industry. Film and television actors have been on strike in the US for nearly two months since they joined the writers. Trade unions work together to salary increases and protection against artificial intelligence replacement. They have the same requirements for gaming companies.
Unions are negotiating with by Activision, Disney, adviser, Epic Games, Insomnia Games, Also 2 Production And WB Games. In addition to the aforementioned protection against AI, which is supposed to threaten the arts and livelihoods of the actors, they are asking for an 11% pay increase.
“Once again we are faced with the greed and disrespect of employers. Artificial intelligence is once again threatening our members and limiting their performance. And SAG-AFTRA once again stands against tyranny, the union said in a statement. “Voice and performance capture are already some of the most advanced applications of AI: the threat is real here.”
“We are acting in good faith and hope to reach a mutually beneficial agreement as soon as possible,” a gaming company spokesman told the BBC. The unions will vote to join the strikes in September. So far, the strikes have resulted in the postponement of a number of films and series, the most striking example being the second. Dune Directed by Denis Villeneuve.
