American studio Volition announced today through its page on the LinkedIn platform that it will cease operations. As the reason, representatives of the studio called the gradual restructuring of parent company Embracer Groupwhich started in June of this year. Embracer ran into problems after a major investment, which, however, did not lead to sufficiently favorable financial results. The situation has become even more complicated after the collapse of a giant investment of 44 billion crowns that Saudi Arabia was supposed to put into Embracer through the Savvy Games Group.
After these events, the Embracer management itself announced that it plans to suspend and cancel some projects. The first major victim was Volition, founded in 1993 and operating under the said Volition brand since 1996. stood from the start behind Saints Row, the last volume of which came out last year. It was this game’s relatively lukewarm reception, coupled with not-so-convincing sales, that seems to have influenced Embracer’s decision to close the studio. In addition to Saints Row, Volition has also featured in TV shows such as Red Faction and Summoner in the past, as well as the games Agents of Mayhem and The Punisher.
