Ubisoft introduces him in an interesting diary and shows that at that time Baghdad was one of the biggest, richest and most developed cities in the world. He was under the control of the Abbasid Empire, the largest of its time, and controlled modern Algeria (even with a small piece of Sicily) up to the borders of modern India.
He was in the beginning before the creators difficult task. Reconstructing ninth-century Baghdad was not easy because, unlike many other places in the Assassin’s Creed series, almost nothing has survived of it. Ubisoft had to rely on surviving buildings and historical data, including stories from medieval travelers and archaeological finds from nearby towns. For this, he also used the book “Baghdad in the time of the Abbasids” by the British orientalist Guy Le Strange. Specialists were also involved in the process, including Dr. Glare Anderson, a specialist in the art and history of Islam during the Caliphate period, and historian Raphael Weiland.
