Assassins Creed: Valhalla – Orlog pits two warriors against each other
The culture of the Vikings is harsh, but even its representatives from time to time wanted to take a break. And one of those alternatives was Orlog, in which a pair of warriors or tough warriors roll the dice in an attempt to destroy their rival. Instead of 1s, 2s, 3s, and lots of other values, you only have images of each warrior’s traditional equipment. That is, in most cases. A properly sharpened arrow, a sharpened axe, a shield, armor that reflects wounds, a magic hand, or an empty field can all fall on your dice.
If in classical dice this is visible immediately after the throw, then here individual images can interfere with each other. However, it is up to you to decide whether you go on the offensive (the ax deals damage) or, conversely, go for a defensive strategy (the armor covers the ax blows until the loss). Similar to the clash of ax and armor, the duel between the shield and the arrow that just pierces into it also works. The hand is not involved in this battle, as it is the symbol you use to steal the opponent’s tokens, which can be somewhat of a local variant of the money you get by successfully rolling the empty side of the die.
The gods can change the direction of the party
Interestingly, during your turn in Orlog, you can set aside some of the dice after rolling and roll the rest. In total, you can throw three times, after which the opponent throws. Each player starts with fifteen lives, which decrease in different ways during the game. In short, if you don’t think enough of your strategy or your luck turns against you, you can lose 1/3 of your lives in one turn. However, everything here is not only in the bones, because Orlog, in addition to them, also works with the favor of the gods, which in its essence is a factor with which sometimes it is possible to sway luck a little to its side. However, it must be said that nothing is free here, so you just have to pay a certain amount of game money for a helping hand (a sign of favor from the gods).
Because without money, divine beings give up maqat. Some ask for more, others for less. However, they can all develop their abilities by increasing the amount you donate to them, so it’s basically an investment that you can count on to pay off to some degree. So if you’re lucky, because it’s still a factor to work with. There are twenty gods available in Orlog, so there are plenty to choose from. The number itself is determined primarily by how difficult the version you decide to play is. In the one for beginners, you have only three, and in the regular one, you are offered three of the twenty that you have for the entire duration of the game after the choice.
However, if you’d like to make the overall experience a little more nasty, there’s an expert option. In it, right from the start, you take out a card from the stock of chips on the stock exchange, after which you take one. Once you have three, the round begins. However, the suit of clubs is not constant, you will get a new suit every turn, so you are never sure what options you will get your hands on. The range of divine cards itself is really extensive. As already mentioned, you have twenty differently configured pieces with different acquisition values and, above all, abilities. In fact, fans of most Norse gods will find something for themselves.
You can use the Mime Map while playing. He will reward you for lost lives by giving “money” for them. In turn, Skuldi can deprive your opponent of funds if arrows fall on his dice. The more arrows, I know, the more bankrupt he will be. Frigga is also impressive in that it gives you the ability to reroll your dice or your opponent’s dice, so you can have a big impact on how the final score looks.
Assassins Creed: Valhalla – Orlog is aimed at a wide audience
Already, the dice in The Witcher 2 showed that the world is interested in physical versions of mini-games. Orlog wants to please fans of Assassins Creed: Valhalla. And at least for myself, I would say that this is a great thing, the processing of which is one of the best. The main idea of the gameplay is based on tactics. However, there is plenty of room for luck. The normal option is already decent, but at least I liked the veteran difficulty because it brings to the game a certain need to recognize individual gods and, above all, to use them correctly.
For myself, I would recommend Orlog mainly to dice gamers craving a specific form of building that is essentially represented by god cards. The main idea of this work is quite simple, so it will be useful for both veterans and beginners. Prim will mostly be played on the selected difficulty.
