Another loomed Redfall? The failed co-op action game from the creators of single-player games Dishonored and Prey has lost most of its players, and the Arkane studio has still not been able to improve it and enrich it with the promised content. It becomes even more terrifying when we learn that a similar style was being considered by Obsidian when developing a new first-person RPG titled universally recognized.
Avowed was initially collaborative in nature. Multiplayer was promoted by CEO Fergus Urquhart himself, and according to him, he stuck with it for a long time. This was when Obsidian was still an independent studio and Urquhart was convinced that this would make the game more interesting for publishers..
“When you ask for 50, 60, 70 million dollars, you must have something interesting.” Fergus Urquhart explains in the video. But then we realized that cooperation requires changing production systems, different dialogues, tasks, and so on. They focused too much on co-op and realized after a while that they had put aside what they do best.
“And so we decided to change our approach and priorities,” We were joined by Head of Development Justin Britch. This was when Obsidian was owned by Microsoft, which gave them more creative freedom.. This allowed them to focus on hand-crafted content, thoughtful gameplay systems, and storytelling with characters, communities, and factions.
Avowed takes place in the same world as Pillars of Eternity., especially on Living Lands Island where you have Aedira as your ambassador tasked with finding out how true the rumors about the spread of the disease are. While on the island, you discover that you have a personal connection to the area and that an ancient secret could destroy everything. Can you save your soul and the island from impending doom?
The game will release in 2024 for Xbox Series X/S and PC and will also be part of the Game Pass subscription.
