A puzzle game where perspective and images become your best friends and sometimes worst enemies.. The viewfinder proves that you don’t have to perfect every part of a title to make it a special project. Now it remains to understand from what point of view to look at the game.

At first glance, Viewfinder might seem like another fairly typical indie puzzle game. Simple and pleasant graphics based on bright colors and somewhat sterile environments with less natural elements and a first-person view in which the key elements of the individual puzzles, i.e. levels, are visible from the very beginning. That being said, the title definitely sticks to the established and functional tracks of the games mentioned at the very beginning of the review, and many others.

What about the viewfinder they are distracted by its core concept. While Portal had its portals, The Witness had its labyrinths, here’s your game and software magic. photos and pictures will do. You take a photo, point somewhere, and voila — the reality has changed. Wherever you go, you can de facto paste the contents of a given photo.

It’s a little hard to describe and even harder to imagine how someone could have programmed it, but once you see it and try it for yourself, you will immediately recognize the meaning and magic of this name.

This is what the whole game is based on. But you won’t always be just running through the levels, collecting every photo you find to casually slap somewhere in the world. Sometimes a photo is at its highest level, so you need to look at it from a good angle for it to work. In a good half of the levels, you’ll also get a Polaroid, thanks to which you can take pictures of whatever you want. And it all works great. It’s a simple but really polished concept.which will not cease to amaze you even after you play it, and at the same time it seems very intuitive and natural.

This contributes to an overall really enjoyable gameplay that at the same time uses other logic elements to create levels that are not that difficult, but at least varied and interesting. Sometimes you’ll have to duplicate multiple flashlights, sometimes you’ll have to reposition the target… Sometimes you’ll even have to take a photo of yourself. In that case, I just wish there were more levels like this in the final. The entire game, including a small number of more difficult and side levels, will take you about four hours. Also, around the last third, I started to feel like the developers were running out of ideas. In my opinion, this could easily be compensated for if the game played even more with its concept and used more cartoonish images in addition to the “regular” photos. You, too, will occasionally encounter them. At some point, you’ll even flip through a picture that looks like it was drawn by a child. In other cases, you will be able to launch the game into the world, and there is also a slightly interactive Tamagotchi simulation. Unfortunately, these elements are not used at all, and it’s a pitysince the beginning of the game, in particular, proves that she can move up a notch.
