The PC version of the original Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, exclusive to PS5, is slowly approaching. And although the system requirements have not yet been officially released, they appeared on Steam for some time a little earlier than they should have, which the players quickly noticed and the table is already walking on the Internet. It is quite extensive and you can check it out below.
It makes no sense to list everything here, but the fact that the minimum requirements (720p, 30 FPS, Very Low) are stated as HDD storage, although SSD is recommended, is certainly worth pointing out. However, the question is how well the game will run on the hard drive, as fast loading is very important for it, and this is one of the reasons why it was only released on PS5 and not on PS4. It doesn’t say anywhere that an NVMe SSD is recommended, so would a classic SATA SSD suffice? Probably, we will have to wait, only the first tests will show the answers.
Even the other listed requirements are not unfeasible and subsequently scale as expected. It’s worth noting that a mere 8GB of RAM is sufficient for the minimum, 16GB for higher resolutions and graphics settings, and 32GB for the maximum.
And speaking of highs, the Nixxes developers behind the PC port mention very high ray tracing settings here. It is quite possible that it will go a step further than the implementation on the PlayStation 5. It uses ray tracing for reflections, shadows and ambient occlusion. It is recommended that you use one of the upscaling technologies when enabled, the game supports several of them: DLSS from Nvidia, FSR from AMD, XeSS from Intel, as well as its own upscaling from Insomniac, the studio behind the original game.
In addition to the requirements, I will also add that the game will use DirectStorage technology (allowing fast loading), namely its version 1.2, which supports decompression via the GPU, due to which it will offload the processor. This will be the first game to feature this feature (Forspoken used an older version without GPU decompression). At the same time, texture streaming should be adapted to the player’s hardware, which, on the one hand, should not allow exceeding the video memory limits of the video card, but at the same time get the most out of it.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is coming to PC on July 26th.
