Studio Bangui announced at the PlayStation Showcase that she is returning to her brand Marathon, recently as a live multiplayer game. Now comes respected Insider Gaming magazine and journalist Tom Henderson with gameplay details.
Marathon will be a third-person action game focused on evacuation. The missions that we will carry out in teams, in pairs or alone (while facing multiplayer and computer-controlled enemies) will focus on completing tasks, obtaining loot and evacuating in time. The amount of oxygen must limit us in timewhich we carry on our backs. It can be replenished during a mission, but once it runs out, the player’s health will begin to decrease.
The game must also present various types of injuries, which may not affect the health of the player directly and immediately. It is the supply of oxygen that can be damaged by enemy fire, which does not necessarily mean elimination, but will significantly reduce the duration of the action. In addition, Henderson also mentions the possibility of stunning, where the image will blur at regular intervals.
The title will also have a progression system – characters will receive passive perks and, conversely, active abilities. For example, night vision. Character death is currently expected to be permanent, with some items and upgrades remaining with the player and others not.
Developers are trying to create an “ultimate live service”. They want to achieve this, for example, with minimal loading times. Between button presses ready and the start of the mission should not take more than one second.
Bungie is currently developing three maps, but it’s unclear if all of them will be available at release. It hasn’t been determined yet, but we know the game will appear on PC, PS5 And Xbox Row.
