Gamers are demanding more powerful current generation consoles. The so-called Pro model became sought after by part of the community after it became clear that Starfield on Xbox Series X will only run at 30fps.

More powerful consoles are speculated from time to time (for the previous generation, these were the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro). But Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft’s gaming division, doesn’t think a new console with better hardware is needed.

“We don’t have that kind of feedback right now. At the moment, we are completely focused on the equipment that we have.” Spencer said when asked by Bloomberg if they were planning a more powerful model.

Current hardware includes the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Microsoft is pleased that they have been able to stabilize production and bring more devices to market so that everyone can buy the current generation console. Future Xbox Series S buyers now have a choice black model with 1TB SSDwhich will go on sale from September 1st.

30FPS IS NOT THE XBOX PROBLEM

In Betheda, they seem to go back to when it was claimed that 30 fps provides more cinematic experience. We often heard this explanation from the developers of the previous generation. In Starfield, the lack of 60 frames per second is not due to hardware limitations, but rather a creative decision.

“I don’t want to get into technical details, but we have budgets for frame rate rendering and teams may want to either go horizontal or go deeper into each image frame. It’s a creative choice.” explained Spencer in an interview with Giant Bomb. According to Spencer, developers decide whether to render multiple frames (for example, 60 FPS) or cram more detail into each frame, but at 30 FPS.

“Of course we have games on our platform that run at 4K/60 FPS. It’s not a platform issue, it’s a creative solution. I trust the decisions of Bethesda Game Studios. I don’t want us to turn games into math exercises… I’m not saying that 60fps or resolution doesn’t affect how we play, but I don’t think we want it to turn into Excel. The goal is to give developers the tools to make the best decisions and games will be what they are.” he added.

Todd Howard of Bethesda spoke in a similar vein. He stated that they preferred permanent experience, which offers blocking at 30 fps. As such, Starfield will run at 4K at 30fps on Xbox Series X and at 1440p at 30fps on Xbox Series S.

THE LOST MAINTENANCE BETHESDA GAME

There are a number of jokes about bugs when playing large-scale games from Bethesda Game Studios, and it’s no surprise that players of both humorous and less humorous bugs have been expecting Starfield, which should be much more. If you are also expecting and looking forward to them, you may be disappointed. Microsoft provided its testing team to ensure that Starfield will be Bethesda’s game with the fewest bugs.

“Our Starfield testing team is very large. Working with Todd (Todd Howard, creative director at Bethesda Game Studios), I saw the bug count and just looking at those numbers, if we released Starfield today, it would be the fewest bugs in Bethesda’s history.” Matt Booty, head of Xbox Game Studios, said confidently.

“The whole team is definitely more experienced. They already have work on Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. To be honest, at the time we acquired Bethesda, the game should have come out earlier. Even before we officially announced, Spencer showed. The originally announced date was 11/11/2022.

So let’s see. Starfield will release on September 6 this year for PC and Xbox Series X/S. The game will be available for subscription on the same day Game Pass.
