Game development is not exactly a fast thing. Todd Howard is well aware of this, which is speculated to be the reason Elder Scrolls 6 could be the very latest game the famed creator is working on. The pace of game development at Bethesda takes many years, which some have criticized, but at least according to Howard, it’s important to make time for games. He himself compares the time delays of titles from the Bethesda workshops with the work of Rockstar, which also has large time gaps between games and the negative impact on the series is almost zero.
Of course, Howard would like development to go faster, but in his opinion, speeding up at the expense of quality is the wrong way. The studio wants to support its new games more, so the lifespan of Starfield should be significantly longer than in the case of previous Bethesda projects. He himself does not expect that he will be able to work on the development of Elder Scrolls 7. According to him, his path may end with Elder Scrolls 6.
As for the upcoming Elder Scrolls 6 RPG, it looks like it’s still quite far away, so we don’t even have a theoretical date. Therefore, it is completely possible that the game will skip the current generation of consoles and become a reality only on the next one. However, these are only assumptions, perhaps the development will not take so long, since the announcement was made some Friday ago.
Who remembers when Todd Howard first announced Elder Scrolls 6 during E3 2018 5 years ago today? 🥲 pic.twitter.com/fuHbKDuNwu
