Fascists annoy the developers of the game Ecumene Aztec

For development studio giant craftwhich now appears on Steam under the title Oikoumene Gamesthere were unpleasant problems due to the upcoming game Ocumene of the Aztecs. A group of Spanish fascists have registered the giganscraft.com domain and are using it to promote the far-right movement in Spain and South America. These actions are aimed at promoting Spanish white nationalism and imperialism.

POLITICAL BUSINESS?

Last week, the IGN server introduced Ecumene Aztec, an action-packed survival game where players will have the opportunity to play as an Aztec warrior trying to reverse the occupation by the Spanish conquistadors. However, for this fact far-right extremist faction reacted and began to persecute the developers.

After the Ecumene Aztec was exposed, the domain was taken over by extremists and they created what is essentially a fan site for Spanish imperialism. The Verge contacted Giantscraft, where a spokesperson confirmed this via email, stating that they had “been under attack from far-right groups since the announcement” and that the domain was registered by the group shortly after the game was announced.

The developers claim that the official website of the publisher is located at ecumenegames.com and that they are working to resolve the situation. But the page redirects you to YouTube with the first gameplay trailer. A representative of the public relations department claims that at the time when all this happened, the publishing house was just changing its name to Oikoumene Games.

The idea of the developers was the opportunity to play as an Aztec warrior who fights for the freedom of his people. After the comments of the community of players, it will most likely be possible to play on the side of the aggressors. Therefore, the developers are trying to make the game more historically accurate and meet the needs of the community.

Despite the studio’s claim that the game is not political in nature, it has a strong historical footprint that, at least in the eyes of Spanish extremists, becomes political. Let’s hope Ecumene Aztec doesn’t have any more problems.
