Sometimes game development is a hell that the authors of certain projects will never forget. According to Bloomberg, one of the many troubled productions was the development of one of the worst games of this year – the shooter Redfall. Of course, there must have been more reasons why development went so badly. However, one of the main ones is undoubtedly the fact that, according to servers, more than 70% of Prey developers quit while working on the game, after which the subsequent recruitment did not bring newcomers with a clear vision. Against. Most expected them to be working on something a little different than co-op multiplayer.
According to available information, most of them expected to work on a game focused on a single player game, but in reality everything was very different. At one point, the game even featured microtransactions. There was excitement in the studio. Most of the staff were dissatisfied with the way the project looked, which at one point led to a large percentage of them wishing for a reboot or complete cancellation of the game shortly after Bethesda was acquired by Microsoft. Unfortunately, this did not happen in the end. All in all, this proves that Microsoft had minimal influence on the development of Redfall and the main responsibility lies with someone else.
What is certain, however, is that the development of Redfall was a disaster from which Arkane Studios will take a long time to recover. And we’re not even talking about the reputation that has suffered greatly from the release of their news. Let’s hope they do better next time.
Redfall from the respected Xbox Arkane Studios is one of the worst reviewed games of the year. What’s happened? This is a story about an unclear direction, a severely understaffed team, and a game that many developers didn’t really want to make.
