The Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring was originally planned as two DLCs.

Earlier this year, Elden Ring’s Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion shouldn’t have been just one DLC, according to vetted leaker Lance McDonald. The original idea was to release two separate packages to the world along with the season pass, which McDonald introduced to the world like this:By the way, the Elden ring was supposed to come out with a 2 DLC season pass. It was all planned 100%… I have no idea exactly when the strategy was rethought, it just didn’t happen, and then randomly a free Colosseum (PvP arenas) appeared. And they were missing a ton of content.”.

Elden Ring was supposed to have 2 DLCs, but From soft combined them into one big expansion that has been in development since at least January 2022.

McDonald notes that this is not the first time From Software has taken such a step. A similar situation should have happened in Bloodborne. Instead of the two originally planned DLCs, the game received The Old Hunters expansion. How it will turn out with Elden Ring is a question, because if the already mentioned Bloodborne was supplemented with just one addition, then Dark Souls 3 acquired two DLCs. The only thing you can be sure of is that the developers at From Software will let us know about upcoming content for their gem.
