Chronicles of miasma is a real-time exploration game that combines tactical turn-based combat with RPG elements. You may encounter little-known characters in beautiful and rich environments.
The game from the authors of the successful action game Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden was released recently and is gaining above-average ratings around the world. We haven’t had time to focus on the game as such in a stream of other games, but we’ve prepared an interview that might encourage you to give it a try.
INTERVIEW WITH LEE VARLY, GAME DIRECTOR
How will the game differ from your previous turn-based game Mutant Year Zero?
All the core principles of Mutant are here and improved, plus Miasma is a much bigger game. Now we have a more complex system of tasks, including side ones. Miasma’s powers themselves can be improved with special chips, we have a lot more variety of enemies, etc.
We have also worked to make the game suitable for both new and old players. Lower difficulty is now a given, and we’ve also added a new “easy” tactical mode that greatly reduces the RNG (random number generation of various attributes such as dodge chance, damage level, reward amount, editor’s note).
We also saw in Mutant that fans really like to manipulate crit chance, so we introduced the new RAGE feature, filling up the bar gives you a guaranteed 100% crit chance, any % over 100 translates into extra damage that can be used for a number of lethal units.
ALL MUTANT BASICS ARE HERE AND IMPROVED, PLUS MIASMA – A MUCH BIGGER GAME.
Can we expect more communication between humans and robots? From the trailers and available information, it seems that the relationship between Elvis and the robot is very friendly.
Elvis and Diggs have a very close relationship, as a child, Elvis was left with Diggs as a kind of guardian, and over time they became close, even calling themselves brothers. In the game, you will meet many robots, both good and bad, just like in the human world.
Can we expect any other enemies besides human and robot enemies? We saw mutated frogs.
Yes, it is quite. Miasma turns nature into nightmares, so be careful. This time we tried to make good variability not only in the theme, but also in the gameplay. Each type of enemy you encounter will force you to change tactics.
Walking through the cities seems pretty open, will there be some dialogue, an opportunity to learn about the world and history, perhaps more customization thanks to conversations with NPCs?
Yes, we have created a small chat system where you can talk to people and learn more about the history and setting of the world.
In what part of the United States does the story take place, will we go to other states after America?
The play opens with a blurry image of Kentucky among the ruins of the New Lexington. We will visit swamps, deserts, crazy sci-fi ships, etc.
Can you tell us, or at least give us a hint, what the features of the other heroes will be? Are we waiting for the mysterious glove from Elvis?
Each hero has a fairly extensive set of skills. Some of them (the most useful ones) are generic, but each character has many unique skills. For example, Diggs can charge or stun others, Jade can deploy a family tech tower that the player can control, and… no, I won’t tell you.
Miasma Chronicles was released on May 23 this year on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
