Romania accuses PlayStation of abuse of office

Sony There is a problem. Romanian office The Competition Authority (RCC) is investigating a Japanese company. He suspects that the PlayStation is abusing its dominant position in the video game market. The subject of the antitrust investigation is the exclusive sale of digital versions of games through PlayStation Store.

The authorities are also upset that Sony does not allow the sale of game activation keys to independent stores. According to Romania, they have such a practice limit the ability to buy games for the PlayStationleading to higher prices for games for these consoles.

Officials from the RCC even conducted inspections at the European headquarters of Sony for information and evidence. We do not know how many times and when this happened. However, officials seem to have come to the conclusion that this could be an anti-competitive practice that could harm an estimated 1.3 million players and 127 development studios in Romania.

At this time, we do not know if the case will go to court and when. The second problem makes more sense. If they decide in Romania, then over time, all platforms offering digital versions of games may have problems; from the Xbox and Nintendo Store on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

So far, RCC is not claiming that Sony is to blame. Recall that last year we heard similar accusations against Sony from US officials, but then the judge dismissed the claim.
