It was recently announced that the PvE path for Overwatch 2 was halted during development. In many ways, this option seemed incredibly ambitious, which left many players frankly frustrated by the cancellation. However, according to the developers, it was a forced decision because development simply didn’t go the way Blizzard intended.
However, according to internal sources from Your Overwatch, the main reason for the cancellation of the PvE story mode was the decision of the top management. And what led to this step? According to the insider, the problem was the lack of greater profitability. Simply put, there will be too much investment, and the return may not be the same as in the case of a PvP-oriented format filled with countless microtransactions that tempt you to pull out your wallet. Of course, the pandemic also had a big impact on this, which did not benefit the production at all and eventually led to the departure of some important team members.
In general, the published video raises a number of questions. However, at least according to the information provided, Overwatch 2 could be a very distinctive PvE shooter, but Blizzard simply had no desire to implement this path and instead relied on battle passes and in-game currency. And in the end, at least financially, it looks like the move paid off for him.
honor to have @YourOverwatchYT video get reaction from legend @Asmongold https://t.co/MgvtVLwRET
I forgive individual Blizzard employees just doing their job, but I will never forgive Blizzard as a whole for making a fool of me after baiting and swapping OW2.
