Alone in the Dark – new trailer, release date and demo

Last summer we received a rather unexpected announcement in the form of a new Alone in the Dark. The original game was released in 1992 and was one of the first survival horror games. Although the brand failed to catch on like later rivals Resident Evil or Silent Hill, and was completely on ice for a while, THQ Nordic, which owns the rights to the brand, decided to revive the series. The Swedish studio Pieces Interactive is working on a new game and this is a rethinking of the first part, the plot is basically similar, but somewhat reworked, and the gameplay and graphics are of course on a completely different level than 30 years ago.

At the presentation of Alone in the Dark Spotlight, we learned almost all the necessary information. The most important thing at the very beginning – the game will be released the 25th of October this year, about a week after the release of another horror movie called Alan Wake 2. In addition, we also saw some new footage, and the main couple took a long time to complete.

In Alone in the Dark, you set out to explore the mysterious mansion of Derceto, where Jeremy Hartwood used to live but disappeared. His niece, Emily, arrives at the scene, having also invited Detective Edward Carnby. You can play through the game as both characters, each offering a slightly different experience and part of the story. Similar to, for example, Resident Evil 2, the developer directly recommends that you play the game twice.

In addition, we learned that both characters were played by well-known actors. He lent his voice to Carnby David Harbor, who you may know, for example, as Sheriff Jim Hopper from Stranger Things. Then Emily spoke Jodie Comerplayed by Villanelle in Killing Eve.

The video also featured Frédéric Reynal, lead creator of the original game. He says the new team has done a great job of keeping the core principles of the original, but at the same time they have gone much further than he could have imagined 30 years ago. By the way, Mikael Hedberg, the main script writer of the game Soma, was involved in the story of the rethinking.

We were also able to listen to an excerpt from the soundtrack prepared by composer Arni Bergur Zoega. He defines the genre of this music as “dark jazz”.

The very good news is that the developers have prepared a demo version, which is now available on all platforms on which the game was released. This is a prologue that takes place a few weeks before the game itself, and in which we play as a little girl, Grace, who has to deliver a letter to Jeremy. This is the same demo that was already available last year at Gamescom (here we’ll get our impressions), but now it’s finally available to the general public. See system requirements below.
