After one of the best games of the year comes a contender for the title of the worst game of the year. In the first case, I’m talking about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for Nintendo Switch. The second is about Gollum’s very unfortunate adventure.
Lord of the Rings: Gollum currently the lowest rated game of 2023, both on Metacritic and OpenCritic. The PC version has an average rating of 43% and is ranked 295th out of 296 games released this year. The PS5 version is even worse and is in last place with an average rating of 38%.
Reviewers write about one of the worst gaming experiences they’ve ever had. Some see glimpses of something good, but everything gets in the way of a chaotic linear plot, clumsy controls and boring stealth. Others write about the terrible technical side and outright outdated level design.
At the same time, the title was postponed several times, but the Daedalic Entertainment studio was never able to bring a quality product to the market for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. The question is how the version for Nintendo Switch, which should appear later, will behave.
There has been a lot of talk lately about the worst game of 2023. Redfall from Arkane and Bethesda. This co-op shooter averages 54% on PC and 56% on Xbox.
Listings on both Metacritic and OpenCritic include only games with at least 7 reviews.
Given the negative feedback, the comments from the developers and Middle-Earth Enterprises do not quite fit in:

You will have to climb, jump and sneak to avoid danger or find convenient places. Gollum is agile, intelligent and cunning, but he is torn apart by a split personality.
