The PlayStation 4 console was Sony’s successful generation, with sales exceeding 117 million units. Thus, it surpassed the PS3 (87.4 million) and the first PlayStation (102.49 million). Sony expects similar success from the PS5. The president and CEO himself is very optimistic that the PS5 will sell over 108.4 million units over its lifetime.. By March 2023, 38.4 million units had been delivered to stores.
PS5 is already selling well, the situation with the production and supply of consoles to the market compared to last year stabilized and the new generation begins to surpass the old in every way. Interestingly, compared to the same stage of life, the PS5 has higher console spending. It means that PS5 owners spend more money.
Sony expects the PS5 to surpass the PS4 in all key metrics by the end of fiscal 2023. These metrics include software (physical, digital), add-ons, subscriptions (PS Plus), controllers, or VR without buying the console itself.
