When you say a story game full of puzzles with interesting artificial intelligence, many of you will surely think of Portal and perhaps the “Talos Principle” might also come to mind. For some, it was the first named project that was quite key, and it is not surprising that today’s games take a lot of examples from it. One such pun is me Entropy Centerwith a female protagonist, melodramatic artificial intelligence, puzzle rooms and one big challenge in the form of world destruction.
Have you ever heard of something like this? There is nothing to be surprised here, since it actually sounds the same as the already mentioned Portal. Just keep in mind that as long as your best friend had a portal gun, here’s yours. ASTER. It does not open a gate in space, but turns time. Does this seem simple to you? You can think so, but here you really need to think about the so-called.from the box“. In other words, use your brain, push your limits and come up with a solution in reverse, which is what I believe… It’s not just that, and the developers are well aware of this.

Welcome to the Entropy Center! This institution was built on the Moon in order to create a large enough defense for the planet Earth. Because this place is the only reason why people still live on Earth, and your native blue homeland is intact. Well, not for long. Since you are next to nothing do not you rememberyou go on reconnaissance and gradually find out who you are, what you do and why there is not a single living soul around you.
Your mission is to generate entropic energy, which is the key to the operation of the device that can turn back time. Thanks to this, the Entropy Center keeps the Earth from major disasters, prevents mass extinctions, and so on. In short, each event is described and sent back to the home planet, where scientists will take measures to ensure that humanity avoids further destruction. Although this seems to be an absolutely ideal state, it is quite clear that such power can only lead to great misfortune. And that’s why he’s here Aria Adams with ASTRA to find out why.
Since this is primarily a puzzle game, there are several elements to help you solve the various puzzle rooms. You will have access to regular cube push buttons, rebound mat, different beams to unlock systems or convert cubes and more. But all this would be meaningless if ASTRA did not exist. This device contains a highly developed artificial intelligence that is able not only to produce high-quality facts about cats, but, above all, can analyze an object and its movement in time and space.. Simply put, it brings objects back in time. And most importantly, there is a very hilarious AI that makes this job really fun, comical and gives it a pace. Which is only good for the main character (and you), because with her messages she can pull you out of the stereotype, make you laugh and cheer you up.
With the ability to turn back time a very unique mechanic is created here. The game will not only show you how easy it is to manage and use each item, but it will give you a very subtle push and teach you how to solve individual tasks correctly. Cube in short, you use to load buttons, rebound platform it can toss you or another object into the air, allowing you to pick up objects in places you can’t normally reach. Gateswhich erase objects and the timeline are quite annoying, but present a challenge that you will enjoy very much. Sliding platforms, fans and accelerating belts they give the puzzle rooms a truly gigantic size, and more than once you will have to move from place to place with all the items several times just because you missed a step in time. Fortunately, the addition of useful items is gradual, and the game does a great job of helping you understand the meaning of cubes, platforms, and lasers. Thanks to this, you will not think that the complexity of individual rooms will somehow increase dramaticallyon the contrary, you very smoothly become masters of solving puzzles backwards.
On the other hand, this return in time is very chaotic, because in combination with some graphical anomalies or ailments, it is possible to find other level solutionsthan it was originally intended. And this happens quite often. The developers were in no hurry, but after from the graphical side, it seems that they somehow broke. The environment you will be moving in is pleasant but definitely not breathtaking. Because at times you will feel like you are seeing certain things too often. They’re just shot differently. How light, shadow, and reflection work is best not to explore here and try to look where you shouldn’t. Otherwise, you will find that walls, properly placed decorations, or even a material ceiling are missing throughout the map. Firstly, these are small things that you will notice when you study very carefully and they do not affect the solution of puzzles.
Station spaces are artificial and heterogeneous. Each room has its own style, charm and, as a rule, a certain solution. As you progress through the story, you will also discover a wild open world. Here you will also find locations embedded in the earth’s flora, and the surroundings can also be used to solve puzzles. These little streams are both your best friend and your biggest enemy, because water kills. All in all, we can say that while there are many criticisms of graphics processing, they are more like bugs in a fairly well-crafted environment.

To fully understand what is happening around you, you will need to not only listen to your weapons, but also look for terminals, which contain important information and snippets of conversations that can piece together the entire backstory of the story. Although it touches on a very complex topic in terms of reversing time, saving life and death, it’s all wrapped up in very simple but functional humor and nicely lightens a difficult situation. At the same time, this humor does not detract from the seriousness of the situation, and the harsh reality will very quickly return you to earth … that is, to the moon.
You will definitely enjoy solving puzzles from time to time spoil various bugged items, wall-eating cubes or umbrellas, which will refuse to let you go, but you definitely won’t experience fps drops. Everything works beautifully smoothly, images stay at a consistent level, and as long as you don’t go where you shouldn’t, you don’t even have to worry about ending up in an alley of no return. In addition, random challenges in the form of robot shootouts add some action to the game, which is a pretty welcome change from a laid-back game.
Unfortunately, apart from the voice acting, we cannot praise the game in terms of sound. The music itself and the conversations between Aria and ASTRA are great, but the ambient sounds are so heavily omitted that you completely ignore their absence or presence. Especially in the case of bodies of water, you would rather expect to hear at least some sound effects, and not just the thud of a boot on sheet metal.
In general, here we can say that although you Entropy Center has taken a significant dose of inspiration from Portal, it’s not Portal at all. The individual rooms are original, the pieces in the computers complement and explain the story nicely, and the pace changes nicely in regular sequences. Yes, there are really a lot of bugs, graphic sores and things that just make you say “And it was supposed to be here?” or “Did I really have to solve it like this? But in this way, it’s really fun. And while the story itself isn’t all that original, you get that aha moment after a very long journey.
If the developers put in a little more effort and perfect all the ailments, then perhaps we will have a thing that can compete not only with games like The Talos Principle, but also with Portal itself. After all, it’s not every day that you come across a job that throws quite a few different mechanics in front of you than what you’re used to, and at the same time, you enjoy it. In addition, the game rewards you with a special feeling after playing and leaves you completely calm, just sitting and saying to yourself “What if it were true?”
Verdict
The Entropy Center is very similar to the Portal. Although we find similar objects and environments here, the mechanics of returning time is so unique and well understood that solving individual rooms will be fascinating for you. The story isn’t strong enough to pull you through the entire game on its own, but thankfully, when combined with the humor, you get a very original experience.
