State Administration of China became the 37th regulator to approve Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard for nearly $69 billion.
Microsoft talks about unconditional approval from China and withdraws permits from the European Union and Japan. Xbox’s association with publisher Call of Duty and Diablo is designed to enable consumers around the world to play more games on more devices.
The acquisition has also previously been approved in Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Serbia or South Africa. In addition to the UK appeal process, Microsoft still needs to get approval in the US from the Federal Trade Commission. The hearing is scheduled for early August 2023.
Microsoft is set to pay $68.7 billion for Activision Blizzard and King’s mobile division. This amount represents the largest acquisition in the history of the video game industry and is one of the largest in any business. So far, Microsoft paid the most in 2016 when it bought LinkedIn for $26.2 billion.
