Was the story mode one of the main reasons why you decided to play Overwatch 2 in the future? Well, we have bad news for you. Blizzard has announced the cancellation of this highly anticipated feature. The main reason seems to have been the pace of development, which Overwatch 2 producer Jared Noyce said was not going well.

Commenting on the development of the PvE mode, he expressed the cancellation itself during the live broadcast as follows:With everything we’ve learned about what it takes to run this game at the level you deserve, it’s clear that we can’t deliver on the original PvE vision that was shown in 2019. a dedicated hero mode with talent trees, that long-term power progression, those things are just not in our plans anymore. We know this is going to be disappointing for a lot of you and to be honest a lot of us had a really hard time and a lot of people on the team put their heart and soul into these things.

Blizzard’s announcement sparked a lot of backlash, leading Noyce to announce that despite the cancellation of PvE Hero Mode, players can look forward to a ton of PvE content. However, the community around Overwatch 2 may be completely oblivious to getting the massive missions originally introduced, long-term character progression, or proper cinematic cutscenes. In the end, this is a big shame, because this mode really attracted many players.
