Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is still considered to be one of the most distinctive vampire games you can find on the market today, thanks to its excellent story and world design, and the community of players who are actively working on and improving it. Troika Games co-founder Tim Cain recently talked about this work in a video where he came up with two papers suggesting two possible continuations of the base game’s story. Yes, you read it right. A sequel to Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines was also in the game, which Kane said was commissioned by Activision.
He himself represented their existence as follows:The two documents I found for the sequel date from around the time I joined, late fall 2003. I’m pretty sure they were created at the behest of Activision saying, “Hey, when you’re done, what do you think you’ll do?” do it then Both design documents are unfinished. The first one should describe the name of Exodus after the events of the first game. In it, the player had to flee from the evil released into the world in Vampire: Masquerade – Bloodlines. The whole game was supposed to take place in Barstow, where the main character had to fight for survival with other vampires, who also became a refuge.
The second proposal was called Bloodhunt and was to start in Barstow. Cain describes his plot as follows: “You are trying to get to Las Vegas and have sent your ghouls ahead of you. They didn’t make it to Vegas. You get to a truck stop near Barstow, where you’re attacked by a bunch of Vegas clans, all the people you’ve pissed off. So he only had the first act planned, so maybe he’ll go to Vegas later.“
However, the outlines of the stories are practically the only thing contained in the documents. The mechanic hasn’t been given much space since the sequels were thought about a year before the original game was released, as evidenced by Cain’s comment: “Both are very vague, but I think it’s interesting that we did two different designs and they’re both in Barstow, but we already started thinking about a sequel, so we were already thinking about it in terms of a trilogy.“
It’s a pity that the ideas were never implemented. However, Kain is happy that the team managed to implement Vampire: Masquerade – Bloodlines at all. This should continue in the coming years. However, its future is currently rather uncertain.
