Last week, we brought you the review bombardment of the recently released Burning Shores expansion for Horizon Forbidden West on Metacritic. They are criticized especially parts of the storyin which the main character Aloy shows affection for another female character.
However, other reviews negatively assess other aspects of the game as well, including individual characters, the mode of storytelling, playing time, or price. The result of similar user reviews often awarding the lowest possible score.
Representatives of Fandom, which Metacritic falls under, in an interview with the British magazine Eurogamer revealed that they are monitoring the situation with Burning Shores and are currently working on the development of processes and tools, the result of which should a stricter way of moderating individual posts.
At this point, it is difficult to assess how this announced change will play out in practice. A company representative confirmed in an interview that they are already being tested and in case of violation of the rules, remove comments containing, among other things, racist, sexist, homophobic or other personal insults.
At the same time, it should be noted that we have been experiencing review bombing on Metacritic and other platforms quite regularly for many years. The reasons for the influx of negative reviews are various, so the question is whether a reasonable solution can be found for this problem.
