If you love cars and especially rallies, then you have probably heard of the Dakar races. But although I have personally played almost every rally game that has come out in the last five years, Dakar racing has never appealed to me. But now the studio Saber Porto comes with pretty promising game The Dakar Desert Rally I couldn’t miss. So let’s see if you should play this game, or if you should avoid it altogether. UNIQUE GAME MODE
From the very beginning it must be said that this game is definitely it’s not a simulation. The car demolition model is surprisingly good, but jumping from a great height won’t hurt you, and the driving model is more arcade. But more on that later. In the title you will find several types of racing cars. You can ride cars, specialized trucks, buggies or even motorcycles and ATVs. In terms of race types, you’ll find navigation stages where you have to follow your navigator’s notes, and then classic races where you ride side by side with your rivals.
I liked both game modes. IN navigation steps you will have to really turn on your brain and not only listen to your navigator, who constantly gives you information in a rather monotonous voice, but most importantly you will have to follow a comment in the lower right corner. They inform you about how far the next checkpoint is and what the landscape looks like around it. So it’s not just about being able to drive a car, but, most importantly, being able to navigate. What should I say liked it very much and I have not found a similar experience in any other game.
Classic Racing they are the complete opposite. You also need to know how to navigate here, but usually enough watch the cars around you The real challenge is to get through all the dust thrown up by the wheels of the surrounding cars and also keep your car on the track.
ARCADE… BUT BAD
And here is my biggest problem with this game. The driving pattern… is just pretty bad.. It cannot be said otherwise. This is not only not very realistic, which I expected from such a game, but also not the arcade is poorly handled. The only vehicles I was good at were trucks. Everyone else is incredible unpredictableas if she had no weight. Even the smallest bump is completely confusing, and because of the really sensitive controls, which I even had to tweak a lot in the settings, sometimes problems with keeping the car even on a straight track. I would like to attribute this problem to my skills, but since I do play a lot of racing games, I think it’s fair to say that the driving model of the Dakar Desert Rally is objectively bad.

Dakar Desert Rally is just a game with a lot of potential. It offers something that you are unlikely to find on the market today. Navigate the desert using only notes it’s just plain fun and I’m genuinely surprised there isn’t a game on the market yet that does it well. And unfortunately, this curse of Dakar racing games can’t even crack that title.
