Last month, Polish studio Bloober Team released an 11-minute gameplay demo of the upcoming re-imagining of the horror series Layers of Fear, which mainly improved the graphics, but also added new content and slightly changed the overall design. Now we have a new trailer dedicated to using Unreal Engine 5.

The biggest attraction is Lumen technology, which is UE5’s implementation of ray tracing that can be accelerated in hardware but also works in software. In this regard, the developers from Anshar Studios, who are developing the project, highlighted dynamic lighting, which is absolutely key for a game of this genre. If RT then works with the graphics card hardware, you can also look forward to improved shadows and highlights.

In addition, Niagara technology was used, which allows for advanced particle effects. In addition to all this, the creators mention other unnamed features of Unreal Engine 5 that helped in the development and optimization of this game. “Whether you’re playing on consoles or PC, you can expect smooth 4K HDR playback.” will be heard in the demo.

At the same time, it has been confirmed that PC gamers can count on support for Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS upscaling technologies. AMD FSR hasn’t been mentioned yet, but XeSS in its open DP4a version works on all graphics cards and, as recently shown in Cyberpunk 2077, may even be better than FSR.

Layers of Fear is out on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. We still don’t know the exact release date, but the game should be out in June. This will most likely be the first major Unreal Engine 5 game outside of Fortnite.
