Have a nice death – review on INDIAN

Have a Nice Death is a game about death, paperwork, lost shoes and directives. But basically it’s also scammer 2D shooter full of pain. Unfortunately, I had one problem… I was playing the Switch version. And that was the last mistake.

Imagine: you death and there are too many people in the world, and therefore deaths. And so you decide to optimize this whole overloaded system a little. You will build a business to death with workers whose job it is to make your job easier. Gradually, however, they begin to cough on it, and the papers pile up on your table in the altar. But at some point you feel the urge to make a decision compare your subordinates until everything works as it should again. And of course, so that people can continue to die in peace. This is the whole idea behind the Have a Nice Death story. And it works great.

You will quickly get used to this new world, and it breathes you so pleasantly. nice dark atmospherewhere adorable characters solve real office work problems. But we’re not here to drool over short dialogues in the break room. We are here to enjoy beating up evil subordinates. But here it starts to stagnate. As a player, you have the classic options you’ve come to expect. Main attack with your rechargeable scythe spellswho eat mana, special weapon and an ultra super attack that we can combine with one of the previously mentioned ones. And finally”rush up”, which you can use to quickly move forward in the air and on the ground to overcome large gaps or behind enemy lines. And in general, the feeling of control is excellent … But immediately after it, “buts” begin.

If you’ve played just about any other rogue-lite game, you know that Have a Nice Death just isn’t fun. Nothing new on the table. I still hoped that at some point I would just say, “That’s cool, I’ve never seen that before, that’s a great idea.” But he didn’t come. And so I just beat the enemies, got to the boss, he slapped me and I went there again. And that’s okay, that’s what I expect from this genre. But the problem is that I didn’t have much sense of progress.

In most rogue-lite games, you go on your first journey and get spanked and level up as you go. These improvements give you a constant sense of displacement, but there aren’t many of them here. Maybe I’m too spoiled, but here your main enemy is the one and only chance. Didn’t drop the right weapon at the beginning? No luck, maybe next time. Didn’t receive an update that could help you? Same. And no matter how many upgrades I unlocked, I still didn’t feel like progress. Just another chance to get an upgrade that won’t do me any good.

Another problem is enough unbalanced difficulty. It’s hard to convey without sounding like I’m whining about the difficulty. Such games must be difficult. And many of them actually succeeded. But the balance is kind of weird. First you buff all the parts like nothing happened, you kill enemies in one hit, no one even hurts you, and then the boss comes and you’re dead in a second. So the path to it can gradually feel like an annoying delay, and the game seems to be aware of this, so it gradually opens up the possibility of skipping right here. Which is useless because without all the improvements you can find along the way, you’re just hurting yourself. So I never took the elevator to Brad. By the way, this is our first boss. Really good cap, but a bit lazy.

Bosses as such, they are also the decoration of the entire game. Each one feels instantly recognizable and unique as you gradually learn to deal with them in order to move forward. This makes them perhaps the best part of the whole game. Which is not really a plus, because I just insulted the others. And I stand by it.

Maybe I just don’t see what others see, but when I compare this game to other rogue action games like Hades, Dead Cells and many more, Have a Nice Death just falls behind them all. Enemies are just a small obstacle that gradually becomes more annoying than a challenge. And the power-ups you find in certain parts of the game are often completely useless. Also, by the way, I’m not sure why I should use any other weapon than Diss Scythe, which absolutely destroys enemies compared to other versions of the scythe.

But there is one more thing that could bring something interesting. Floor selection in the elevator. When you reach the end of the level, you can choosewhere to continue. This is a good idea, but in fact it is not as good as it might seem at first glance. Except for some minibosses other than what I appreciate. You just choose what you want to get from this floor. Need a heal, a mana boost, or a new special attack? Hope in luck. Choose the right floor and run through it, hope you get what you want.

It might seem like the whole title pissed me off, but that’s not the case. All the issues that I bring up here are not related to his … death. He is still entertaining, but all the problems at the same time are so wrapped up in each other that they make it just average. Just a “good” rogue-lite game that falls short of others that do the same but better. The only reason I think people love this game is the look and character designs. They look amazing, but they can’t pull the whole game.

General Graphic design it looks very nice and the rather simple decor adds to the atmosphere. It also makes the fights more crisp, so I don’t have much to complain about. Similarly, the sounds are nice and every hit just feels like you hit the enemy hard, and the little chime that plays every time you die and reappear in your office gets a big plus.

And then another one comes problem. Do you remember how I mentioned that I should review Switch version? Yes, it’s not the most powerful console in the world, but I didn’t expect this game to give it a mild cardiac arrest every time a new level is loaded. The stuttering is sometimes downright unbearable, the textures are often lower resolution than the Game Boy game, and the images you can find in your death log are messed up beyond recognition. I’m pretty sure Switch will be able to display higher quality JPG files.

When things go like this… I feel sad. What I got to play was a regular rogue-lite shooter with beautiful visual effectscool characters, bosses you’ll love, and nothing to push her beyond the imaginary.”Fine“called. And it’s also a game that really suffered in its little Switch prison. Have a Nice Death looks nice, but it ends up being just another “maybe on sale” title.

Verdict

At first glance, Have a Nice Death looks like another awesome rogue-lite shooter. But the problem is that it can’t properly balance the difficulty and doesn’t bring anything new, so it gets stuck on average.
