Microsoft wants to catch up with Sony and offer unique Xbox games that will win awards and appeal to gamers. The acquisition of ZeniMax Media in conjunction with Bethesda was to help achieve this goal. In the case of a cooperative shooter Redfall but this is not entirely applicable because on release day, the game will not be playable on Xbox Series X/S at 60fps.. Only 4K quality mode at 30fps will be available on Xbox Series X and 1440p at 30fps on Xbox Series S. A so-called performance mode with the ability to play at 60fps is expected to arrive some time later.
We learned about this yesterday, and it caused a heated discussion. Gamers (probably in the latter camp) are scoffing and pointing out that Xbox Series X owners are playing on the world’s most powerful console, which doesn’t do them any good with Redfall. Even journalists and insiders do not take napkins and they feel disappointed.
MARKETING FAILED IN SEVERAL FORMS
Jason Schreier of Bloomberg si he thinksthat Redfall is interesting, but given the lack of 60 FPS, marketing / PR decisions and release date it’s more like Bethesda wants the game to fail. Redfall will release four days after Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and 10 days before The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Of course, the titles are completely different and geared towards different players, but according to Schreier, it’s all about the attention given to individual games in the media and social media at the time. He believes Redfall won’t get as much attention and the internet will be flooded with videos and discussions about Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and the new Zelda.
According to Schreier, the marketing department failed to clearly present Redfall, sometimes passing it off as a single-player video game and other times as a co-op game. He also criticizes IGN’s gameplay videos. He makes Redfall look worse than he really is. After the video, a wave of criticism hit the developers and journalists of IGN. Schreier blames the failure of Bethesda, which did not prepare journalists for what they will do in this game sequence. He concludes by adding that Xbox/Microsoft doesn’t really decide anything because Bethesda has its own PR/marketing department and has a lot of autonomy in that regard. But things can change with that in mind. Or not?
XBOX OWNERS ON THE SECOND WAY?
Insider Klobrille is also evaluating the status of the Xbox Series X/S version of Redfall. According to him, Microsoft must make sure that owners of the Xbox console do not feel cheated.
“Redfall not supporting 60fps at launch after being shown at that framerate in just about every game trailer is just icing on the cake.” writes He nods and begins to analyze.
Xbox has been talking openly about PC and mobile expansion for years, which is possible. hand in hand with the great player interest in PC Game Pass. Microsoft even develops its own games that are not available on consoles at launch (Flight Sim, Age of Empires, Ara: History Untold).
Even the acquisition of Activision Blizzard is not openly about the console business itself. Microsoft does not hide the fact that it is particularly interested in King Studio gaining a foothold in the mobile device market; and Blizzard to ensure continued growth on PC..
“Xbox consoles haven’t changed much in a few years because the resources were probably needed somewhere else. Relatively strong feedback on Xbox achievements, the control panel in general, or the Xbox DVR experience hasn’t resulted in any significant improvements.”

“Xbox owners are used to having fewer exclusives than Nintendo or PlayStation. While I love both Pentiment and Grounded, 2022 was simply not acceptable in terms of the number of third-party Xbox offerings. And it certainly doesn’t help that games like Ara are only released on PC.” Clobrille continues.
“There is a problem with distribution. Without more details, it’s hard to know what’s really going on behind the scenes, but it looks like Microsoft can’t produce enough consoles right now and it ends up falling behind PS5 even in markets where it was previously stronger than Sony’s platform. “.
“Xbox Live Gold has now become a souvenir. Only Xbox players have to pay to play online, literally the same games and on the same servers that are free on PC. Gold games that are given out every month can now be attributed to a PR error.”
“In addition, there has not yet been an official development of the ability to expand storage or play your own games through Xbox Cloud Gaming.”
“343 Industries and Halo, the literal symbol of the Xbox, have been hit hard by the layoffs at Microsoft. The fate of the new Halo campaign is currently unknown: here, management should have said more about the core Xbox brand. Halo needs a future perspective.”
“The truth is that it’s best to play Xbox games that are already available and coming soon, not on consoles, but on PC. I understand that Microsoft needs to go beyond consoles to make Game Pass work, I’m not naive, but not at the cost of losing fans.” reserves insider.
HOW WILL STARFIELD BE?
Another Bethesda game that won’t run at 60 FPS on Xbox on release day could be the highly anticipated Starfield. Jez Corden of Windows Central is increasingly thinking about space adventure this way. He reacted to a post by ACG Gaming’s Jeremy Penter, who recalled Todd Howard’s words. Reditor and executive producer Bethesda Game Studios said in an interview that he is not against 30 frames per second.
We’ll have to wait for official information.
Redfall will release on 05/02/2023 and Starfield is expected to follow on 09/06/2023. Both games are for Xbox Series X/S and PC. On the same day, they will also be available with a Game Pass subscription.
Increasingly I think Starfield will be 30 FPS on Xbox at launch https://t.co/4WFKkHOsGD
