Take-Two files lawsuit against Grand Theft Auto modders

A few years ago, Take-Two Interactive took a stand against the modding community actively working on mods for Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City. More precisely, these were the re3 and reVC projects, the main idea of which was to modify the original games to run on modern hardware and correct some of the shortcomings contained in these works. These two mods were originally removed from Take-Two, but they were subsequently brought back due to backlash from the creators.

Of course, Take-Two did not like this, and they sued the creators for copyright infringement. The company presented its move by the fact that the authors of the modifications “attempted to illegally copy, modify and publicly distribute the infringing source code.” The company can no longer file a new claim against a part of the defendants, but a certain part can be sued again. It is currently unclear what prompted the recall. According to the PC Gamer server, one of the reasons could be the fact that the meaning of mods has lost its meaning after the release of new official versions.
