The story of the third part of a slightly different Alice in Wonderland has come to its final conclusion. At least according to the developer Americana McGeewho announced it on Patreon. At the same time, he admitted that his career as a game producer ends at the same time as his dream project.
“I no longer have the ideas or energy to create a new Alice. I don’t even feel like doing new games in the context of the current game development environment,” he wrote.
McGee reported that the game known as Alice: Vault (previously called Alice: Otherlands) was offered by Electronic Arts, who own the license for the brand. According to him, he had to prepare the design documentation and production plan together with the Singapore studio. Virtuous Games (which operates primarily as a support group for large developers).
However, EA did not like his proposal. “In terms of funding, they ultimately decided to abandon the project based on internal analysis of intellectual property, market conditions, and manufacturing design details. In terms of licensing, they responded that Alice is an important part of EA’s game catalog and selling or licensing is not what they’re doing right now,” explains McGee.
In addition to the two Alice installments (American McGee’s Alice and American McGee’s Alice: Madness Returns) from 2000 and 2011, American McGee has also worked on games such as Rock, Earthquake, GoldenEye: fraudulent agent or American McGee Grimm.
