Initially, a group of PlayStation fans wanted the mysterious Sony hardware to be the successor to the PSP and PS Vita. But this wish can quickly come true. Well-known insider Tom Henderson learned from his sources that the company is preparing a gaming handheld. The latter should take advantage of the PS5, i.e. the DualSense controller. with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
Handheld has a working title, Henderson said. Q Light, but it won’t be your average handheld console or cloud-based game streaming device. For games, the function will be used Remote playbacki.e. game streaming from the PlayStation 5, which is already running on laptops, smartphones and tablets.
The games are meant to be played on a portable computer in 1080p at up to 60 frames per second. Of course it will requires a permanent internet connectionor to your home network. For this reason, a PDA is not suitable for reducing travel time if you do not have a stable and fast mobile Internet. For this reason, Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck will continue to be preferred.
They say Q Lite looks like a DualSense controller with a massive 8″ LCD touchscreen in the middle. There will be no volume buttons, speakers, audio input, etc. The device is currently in quality control and is planned for release before the PlayStation 5 Pro and after the PS5 model with a removable Blu-ray drive. .
Just for fun: The Steam Deck has a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1280×800 and a frequency of 60Hz. Then Switch has a diagonal of 6.2 inches (7-inch OLED) and a resolution of 1280×720. Thus, the PlayStation portable console will have a larger display.
A more powerful version of the PS5 is said to hit the market in late 2024, with a new PS5 model coming in September. So the Q Lite shouldn’t be far away, it could easily arrive either before Christmas this year or in the first half of next year. It should be anyway part of PS5 phase two. As you can see, this will apply not only to games, but also to hardware. The Project Nomad and Project Voyager wireless headphones should accompany the Q Lite in the market.
