Just today, the highly anticipated PC port of the remake of The Last of Us action-adventure game was released, with Iron Galaxy studio behind it. However, a few hours after the release, it becomes clear that everything is definitely not in the best order with the conversion. At the time of writing, Steam has only 36% positive reviews, with reviews giving the game a “rather negative” label.
Even though preload was available, players couldn’t just play because the shaders would start compiling in the menu. This is of course good, it will prevent very annoying stutters during the game, on the other hand, compilation here takes a really long time, of course it depends on your configuration, but it can be from several tens of minutes to several hours. Don’t try to skip compiling, though, or you’ll end up with some very nasty jams.
The biggest problems occur during the gameplay itself. Players mostly complain about high requirements – overloaded processor, high consumption of RAM (even more than 20 GB), as well as video memory, which can be a big limitation for owners of cards such as RTX 3070 or 3080. In addition, the game is said to be very flies a lot. often on some configurations.
At the very least, very detailed settings where you can tweak the game to work best for you can be an advantage. Separate items contain indicators of how much the processor, video card and video memory will be loaded. So if the game doesn’t perform well initially, you definitely need to play around with the settings a bit. Either way, it doesn’t look like a very good port.
