Yesterday, March 26, passed exactly 20 years since the release of the first Viet Cong. The round anniversary of one of the most famous Czech games was not forgotten by the game designer and co-founder of the Pterodon studio Jarek Kolář, who published a special anniversary video on his YouTube channel.
In it, you will be transported to the year 2000, when even the developers themselves did not know that their game would eventually be called Vietcong. At the time, Pterodon was working on a concept for a game set in Vietnam at the turn of 1967 and 1968, but instead of a believably crafted military conflict, it had work with Rambo film licensewho was supposed to be the main character.
However, at one of the meetings, a radical change finally occurred, after which the concept with Rambo was abandoned and, on its basis, the first Viet Cong, which became a cult, was created. But the anniversary video attached above dates back to when the developers were still working on Rambo. In the pictures of the period, you can see a view of the studio itself or materials from a trip to Vietnamwhich part of the team took up during development.
