Last November, it was announced that the action-packed series Gears of War would receive a live-action adaptation provided by Netflix, which partnered with developers from The Coalition. Until now, we knew almost nothing about the project, but now Variety magazine has come up with the first big name.
We found out that he will write the script John Spaihts, who has previously written screenplays for such films as Prometheus, Doctor Strange, Hour of Darkness, Passengers and the most recent Dune, the film adaptation of the famous sci-fi book series written by Frank Herbert. According to the developers of The Coalition, Spaihts is a true fan of the Gears of War series.
“Gears of War is one of the best action games of all time with colorful characters, a beautifully built world, and a combat system that demonstrates the brutality of war and the importance of having allies on your side.” Spites says. “He wants to become a film and I’m very happy that I have the opportunity to help him with this.”
We don’t know any other information yet and it will probably be some time before we see the film in theaters. Apart from this adaptation, a series is also being created on Netflix.
