The Epic Games Store has definitely not done away with exclusives, but will focus on big brands.

In an interview with PC Gamer magazine, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed that the company’s philosophy regarding exclusives for its digital Epic Games Store has not changed. However, Sweeney mentioned that company management analyzes in detail the success of individual headlines and their impact on the number of users of the specified store.

At this point, the company’s boss revealed that a small handful of really big exclusive titles had a noticeable impact on the balance of power and the influx of new users. On the contrary, even more small exclusive card games did not shake things up too much. From this statement, it is clear that in the future, Epic will focus on a narrower offer of exclusive games in terms of quantity, which, however, should consist of mostly big AAA games.

A good example of such a strategy would be, for example, the upcoming Alan Wake 2, which will be sold exclusively on the Epic Games Store in the PC market. In the past, Epic has paid time exclusivity for other big games like Metro Exodus, Borderlands 3, or Saints Row.
