It doesn’t often happen that Czech games that, despite being critically successful, didn’t make much of an impression in the world commercially, get a second chance. In the case of the psychological horror Someday You’ll Return from CBE Software, released in 2020, this is exactly what happened. Today the announcement as well as the release of the project Someday You’ll Be Back: Director’s Cutwhich was created in collaboration between CBE Software and Bohemia Interactive. This time she plays the role of a publisher.

The Director’s Cut Edition, which has been in production since 2021, hits the market less than three years after the original PC release and brings hundreds of technical and content improvements and extensions. At the same time, we were given the opportunity to watch it directly in the offices of Bohemia Interactive, where the main creator presented the entire project plays by Jan Kavan with the head of Bohemia Interactive Mark Shpanel. Thanks to this, we learned first-hand a number of details, the most important of which is probably information about availability on several platforms.

With the release of the Director’s Cut, the psychological horror set in the forests of South Moravia is now available not only on PC, but also on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.. In this way, even Sony console owners can relive the story in which Danielle, the protagonist, searches for his lost daughter, Stela, and at the same time touches on the notions of fatherhood, fear, lies, and reconciliation with his past. Unfortunately, the lack of an Xbox version also has to be put up with.. According to Jan Kavan, it was simply beyond the creators’ ability and is currently not being considered at all.

In any case, they are among the main changes and news. improved optimization and gameplay. PC players can also enjoy DLSS support, full support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers, and several new achievements. It’s waiting for PS5 owners again DualSense controller haptic feedback support and other achievements related to the current console from Sony. In addition, the creators have prepared two performance modesone of which allows you to play in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second, and the other in Full HD at 60 frames per second.

Those who played the original Someday You’ll Return will likely notice better lighting in many places when playing the Director’s Cut version due to the Unreal 4 engine update, some more tense and scary scenes, or new puzzles. In addition, the main menu reflects your progress and offers the possibility of repeating individual chaptersso that you can return to certain places, for example, due to missing collectibles. And if you were confused by too long a game, this should come in handy. more dynamic gameplay including, for example, fewer passages in which you only walkvarious shortcuts or moving some content to places that are completely optional.

To make things worse the functions of alchemy and herbalism are now more understandable thanks to the interactive tutorial.. And if you complete Someday You’ll Be Back: Director’s Cut in Standard mode and then in New Game+ mode, you’ll see a brand new secret ending. It was also improvements to artificial intelligence, character models or sound effects, and the addition of over 30 minutes of music.

The exploration options for the environment have also undergone some changes, especially in the case of the game map. Forget about the map available on your mobile phone, now you have the classic printable map from the beginning of Chapter 2 at your fingertips, which is much more visual. In addition, it is not limited to a mobile signal, although one has to rely on the fact that it will not be possible to see it in mysterious foggy places. AND if you really like a place on the map, you can immortalize it with the new photo mode, which was added at the request of virtual photographers. In this direction, expect classics that include various filters, depth of field settings, camera and screen effects, or the ability to enrich the photo with the game logo.

Needless to say many bug fixes or localization into 7 other languages like so now Someday You’ll Return is no longer available in Czech and English only. (to the Czech dubbing, which was briefly discussed earlier, but did not take place). At its core, however, this is still a game set in a mysterious landscape, during which players must use not only the already mentioned detailed map, but also the ubiquitous tourist signs and all their wits during the opening of which. Beautiful and at the same time treacherous game world is full of old memories, abandoned camps, gloomy swamps, sheer cliffs or collapsed bunkers, and mysterious stories, mysteries and hidden dangers await in the local forests.

The game also continues to offer extensive crafting. In this way, the collected objects can be modified and disassembled, or you can use them to create new artifacts necessary for the development of the game’s story. And when it comes to the ancient yet newly perfected craft of herbalism and alchemy, it can make mystical potions to help players solve difficult puzzles and, finally, find out the truth about the missing Stele.

While playing, you can use, for example, a special potion called “Contract with the Devil”, thanks to which you will be able to go through mostly stealth passages like a knife through butter. You just have to take into account that usage can have a slight effect on karma which decides which end of the game story you will experience. But, according to Jan Kavan even if you use the Devil Pact every chance you get, you won’t miss out on the best ending available. So, if you want to survive the worst ending, you will have to spoil your karma in other ways.

Someday You’ll Be Back: Director’s Cut is a collection of over two years of intensive work on a title that Lukasz Medek and I are very proud of. While the original intent was only to port the game to consoles, ensure proper game controller support, and localize the game into multiple languages, thanks to a collaboration with Bohemia Interactive, the Director’s Cut now contains both a quantum of new content and features, as well as gameplay adjustments and general smoothness of the game. In addition to new features, the game includes more than a thousand fixes and improvements that make the game incomparably better. I firmly believe that the players will appreciate the effort put in and plunge headlong into the mysteries of the dark story of the search for the missing daughter. adds Cavan in a press release.

Someday You’ll Be Back: Director’s Cut will be available during today, ie. from 03.07.2023, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. The PC version, which is available through Steam, is priced at $19.99, while on the PlayStation Store you’ll pay $24.99. The good news is that If you own the original game on Steam, you’ll get the upgrade to the Director’s Cut for free.. But the new version will appear in your library as a separate item, so it’s not just an update to the original.

BOHEMIA INTERACTIVE STARTS PUBLISHING

For Bohemia Interactive, Someday You’ll Return: Director’s Cut is not only an example of a special collaboration, but also the beginning of a new era in which the company wants to return to publishing games. Indeed, at the turn of the millennium, Czech players could know Bohemia Interactive not only as authors Operation Flashpointbut also as a local distributor, which later became the Czech Cenega.

However, this time it is not about the release of foreign games on the Czech market. Exactly the opposite. The aim of the new publishing activity of Bohemia Interactive is to launch interesting Czech games abroad.. Therefore, Someday You’ll Return can be considered a kind of first sign, which should be followed by other successful games created here. Although Marek Spanel did not rule out the possibility of publishing games by foreign authors sometime in the future, but now Bohemia Interactive as a publisher clearly wants to focus on selected Czech projects. More detailed plans will be announced in the foreseeable future, so for now we can only guess what Bohemka will take under its wing next.
