Impressions from the eighth episode of The Last of Us

By far the “coolest” episode of the season in many senses of the word. So far, the creators of the show have carefully prepared us for the moment when we will see how Ellie’s entire journey has taken a toll on herself and how she will be able to take care of herself when necessary. That’s the test she’s about to go through now, facing an unknown community of people who may be her hope, but also her downfall.

David

While most of the episode follows the game’s story fairly closely, we get another look into the life of the community of people Ellie encounters in this episode. Even here, one cannot fail to notice that the “father” of this community, David, stands out from the rest of the group, who accept him as the unconditional leader. Of course, the full extent of the “qualities” that provided him with this position, we will find out later. Actor Scott Shepherd did a great job: David in his performance seems uncomfortable, uncomfortable, like a person absorbed in the past or secrets and in whom it is impossible to be sure, no matter how eloquent and modest he may be.

Speaking of acting, it’s absolutely impossible for fans of the original to miss (or eavesdrop on) the playful Joel in this episode. Actor Troy Baker took on the role of David’s sidekick named James to bring out the intensity of the acting we’re used to seeing from him. In a word, he is one of the few actors who so captivates any role that he plays it completely naturally and convincingly. Looking at how he looks a bit scruffy with a long beard, I couldn’t help but think how it would work if Joel in the show was played by Joel from the game.

“When We’re in Need”

In an episode filled with tense scenes and played by strong actors, it’s impossible to keep from recurring thoughts about the role of Ellie. One of the reasons why this walkthrough was so impressive in the game was a certain “fragility” of the appearance of the game Ellie – a petite fourteen-year-old freckled red-haired girl with big green eyes seemed much more scared, sad and vulnerable than Belle Ramsey manages. In my opinion, the context of some of the scenes in this episode suffered as a result, although Bella still has a great game, and of course the “lonely child in danger” focus of the situation still works.

Ellie's impressions of the eighth episode of The Last of Us

In any case, this series is primarily about Ellie and her ability to capitalize on everything she’s been through—find the willingness to start trusting people again, or the courage to meet her own destiny, and the strength to convince others that that she can’t play with them. In this regard, the eighth episode of the series worked very well, and it’s fascinating to watch fans of the series who do not know game design, how Ellie’s character’s behavior in this episode is noted on social networks, including the final scenes, which again seemed a little more realistic than in animated design presentation.

Story rules

Watching the passionate reaction of newcomers to the audience, I once again realized that the greatest asset of the series is the same as the greatest asset of the game: this story is simply brilliant, full of unconventional and unexpected twists that almost always emphasize betrayal. human nature and the value of human relationships in overcoming obstacles – probably due to honestly depicted human cruelty, even positive human qualities stand out all the more. Considering how short the series is and how the creators have sometimes tried to portray Ellie’s (who is also played by a somewhat tougher actress) violent tendencies, one can’t help but wonder if there will be gore and violence when the story wraps up in next week’s final issue with the most poignant impression. that the audience will take away from the series.
