Arc Graphics Cards Sell In Line With Intel Expectations
Arc graphics cards, or their first generation Alchemist, from Intel were released in October last year. Since then, owners have received a number of new drivers (since the beginning of this year, even more versions than AMD and Nvidia) that have already fixed several fundamental bugs and improved performance. That’s why Tom Petersen talked about how the cards are doing on The Full Nerd podcast for PCWorld.
Arc’s sales are in line with the company’s forecast, Petersen said. At the same time, he adds that they may increase, especially since the A750 model is a relatively attractive option with a price tag of $249 (less than CZK 7,000 in domestic stores). However, while Alchemist is being finalized, most of the team (hardware and software) is already working on the second generation called Battlemage. Development is proceeding at a rapid pace, and the new series should offer some interesting technologies, Petersen said, although he has not yet revealed the details. However, we can expect better ray tracing and better scaling in DirectX 12. At the same time, design errors caused by the Alchemist architecture should be fixed.
Of course, Petersen didn’t say anything about a release date. However, according to the leaked roadmap, Intel should target Q2 2024.
How does the Ryzen 9 7950X3D compare to the Core i9-13900K?
While the first reviews of the Ryzen 9 7950X3D processor, which will finally bring V-Cache to the current Zen 4 architecture, should not appear until Monday, we can already see some performance estimates. Several benchmarks leaked to the Internet.
For example, the new CPU has appeared in Geekbench 5 several times. On average, the model scored 2,127 points in the single-core benchmark and 22,719 in the multi-core benchmark. In both cases, these are slightly lower than the “base” Ryzen 9 7950X, which is to be expected, since the version with 3D V-Cache has a little more low frequencies.
The true power of the new processor lies, of course, in gaming, and we have several results from that. First, the chart was leaked directly from AMD (via HD Tecnologia magazine), which appears to be a guide for reviewers. In 22 games, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D is said to offer an average of 7% better performance than the competing Intel Core i9-13900K.
Liquor with the nickname chi11eddog subsequently tweeted published plus the results of independent testing in several games. For example, in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the performance increase compared to competitors is up to 43%, this is already a huge difference. In the meantime, you need to wait a bit and wait for the full reviews, which, as already mentioned, will arrive on Monday.
