The Settlers: New Allies – review on INDIAN

The settlers are back! I’m probably not the only one who, after all these years, thought that these words would never be heard again. The last part of this building-strategy series was already published in 2010. For context, just look at it like this: people born this year are already graduating from elementary school in a few years. To make matters worse, people born in the year this game was first announced will already be starting from the basics. So the wait has been more than enough, and now both veterans and a whole new generation of players can get into the game. Thus, the series had a chance for a fundamental revival, which it definitely deserves. And above all, looking back at the fact that this year he will celebrate his thirtieth birthday. It’s all the more surprising that Ubisoft actually sent her to certain death with little fanfare…

The absolute basis of these new parts remains the same as what we have long been accustomed to in Settlers. In a word, our goal is to ensure the security and, above all, the prosperity of our settlement. And this is from the very first steps, when we start with a handful of settlers in an unknown and uncharted land. Therefore, our first steps will be aimed at getting the main raw materials and starting the most important part of the economy. This means starting to mine stone and cut down trees. and then recycle them, start fishing, build roads, houses, erect wheat fields, and so on. And also explore outside our settlement and look for veins of iron or coal, for example. Therefore, we must expand our boundaries and gradually ensure the supply of all important materials and consumables.

So what; it is already at first glance pleasant and pretty undemanding game loop. There is no problem in this. But this will happen very soon, within a few hours, after one fundamental discovery. In a word, the developers completely forgot about the witnesses and avid fans. And this is about… Honestly, I have no idea, maybe seriously, the players who will launch the base? The little that I have described that you will do, except for a few very few other things, at the same time THE ONLY ONE, What are you going to do. It’s just a truncated title, the content and content of which almost literally begins and ends with a relatively short tutorial.

A number of familiar mechanics have either been greatly simplified to the point where you wonder why they are still there; or, to be sure, it’s not straight at all. The effect of this is basically the same: as soon as you find a growing forest from which you can draw endless firewood, which is not so little on the map, and you secure the same endless and numerous stone mines … Then you just win, because that the game doesn’t force you to do anything else.

For example, something as important to a well-functioning economy as food, you can just ignore it. Instead of acquiring it through a series of buildings and providing different types to keep your settlers in other key buildings working properly, they will now just grind without it. Why not. Thus, food only works as a source of energy, only speeding up the production of certain buildings. Or you can sell it, but you just don’t need the money. Without exaggeration – I did not find any practical use for them during the passage, as I simply did not encounter any problems..

In addition, many buildings, compared to the previous parts, are either combined into one – so there is just one living hut, providing unnecessary food is a matter of hardly a few buildings, and not a whole interconnected chain – or for safety, they were removed completely. Everything is just truncated or missing in every conceivable component. At least a good half of the not very large number of buildings and structures serve only and only to make your settlement more efficient. Not to ensure its survival, functionality and prosperity. As I mentioned earlier, once you have secured a supply of stone and wood, you can put your feet on the table because there is no rush at that point.

And the army? You have three types of units and a tower to defend. That’s all. Units cannot be upgraded, there are no siege engines, just create the appropriate material and set up auto-recruitment to get the best army. When you have about 30 units, just go to the enemy base, destroy the warehouse, and you’re done.

Yes, I would like to mention that you can find the campaign here. But it’s just so mundane and uninteresting that it’s hard to dwell on it. Or I would like to destroy the fact that you have three factions that you can play as. But their effects are so minimal, especially in such a ridiculously simple game, that it can be just one and nothing will change. The only hint of difficulty, which means at least a little more interesting gameplay, I can only imagine in PvP mode. But due to the lack of players, I almost never succeeded, and when I did, it was usually too much. servers are down. On the other hand, the fight against artificial intelligence was out of the question. because he’s so incredibly weakthat I had the feeling that her presence was just an illusion. And increasing the difficulty didn’t help. Because there should have been some in the first place.

To be honest, I was really looking forward to the new Settlers. However, I did not expect to get my hands on such an incredibly strict, truncated, superficial and boring title as this. What if I had to highlight something that was definitely successful, it would be the audiovisuals. Graphically, the game is definitely nice and pleasantly colorful., and the sounds are probably some of the best you’ll find in this title. Each of the buildings makes its own different sounds, and with a large number of settlers moving around your settlement, you will have a wonderful feeling that it really lives under you. The only pity is that this spoils the voice acting, which, although not deafening, becomes damn annoying after a while due to repetitive voices. Especially in the case of a female announcer.

Honestly, I would like to find something positive in this game. Something that just makes me want to play that game again. But… it just doesn’t work. Like this – what’s here works like this. I will not contradict this. The game is easy to control, works great, has very few bugs, looks nice, sounds great, has nice music and custom mechanics. The problem is that there simply aren’t enough of them. Less than a little. Only after passing the training, you will experience everything that awaits you, without the opportunity to upgrade your abilities. And at such a moment the question arises, why even play it.

Verdict

The new settlers simply failed. It cannot be said which is simpler or more twisted. This is not the game the fans deserve. And this is certainly not the game that the series itself deserved on its 30th anniversary.
