Deus Ex could be a faithful adaptation of Human Revolution

This is becoming more and more common in the realm of movies and TV shows. a case of adaptation that usually has little to do with the book template. Just take a look at Amazon’s Wheel of Time, Netflix’s The Wizard, or Amazon’s upcoming The Lord of the Rings series: Rings of Power, which still seems to be on the same path. This is usually due to the creators not knowing the original work or believing they can handle the material better than the original author. But as part of video game adaptations, we eventually got used to this reprehensible approach. high-quality films based on games can still be counted on the fingers of one hand. So it’s always nice to know about the reverse approach, i.e. respect for the pattern. Though it’s a movie we’ll probably never see again.

USA Today talked about behind the scenes canceled film based on Deus Ex: Human Revolution since 2011. The pair were working on the script for the film, which we first learned about in 2012. Scott Derrickson And C. Robert Cargillwhich had a well-received horror at the time Sinister. Derrickson was also supposed to take over the leadership, but then both gentlemen received an offer that he did not refuse. The proposal is called Doctor Strange Name: Marvel Studios.

Once Derrickson and Cargill fled to Marvel to write and direct Doctor Strange, work on the Deus Ex: Human Revolution film was essentially over.. At least that’s what he says Scott Kinney from the production company Prime Universe Productions, which was in charge of the film along with CBS Films. Kinney said in an interview with USA Today that he thought he did not understand the reason why the studio stopped developing the film. but the reason seems to be a change in strategy and a focus on a different type of film.. Above all, however, Derrickson’s departure as director meant final.

However, Kinney also claims that Derrickson and Cargill really understood the world and concept of Deus Ex.. For the same reason, they were selected from a certain circle of candidates who presented their version to the studio to write a full-fledged script. In this way This may be the first really good video adaptation of a video game.. “Their amazing work on Marvel’s Doctor Strange, which could/should have been a Deus Ex movie, cleverly shared a larger-than-human motif that morphed well into an action-adventure for a wide audience. Replace Doctor Strange’s mysticism with Deus Ex’s transhumanist theme to make us feel like we really have all the ingredients for a movie that could be memorable or, at worst, ahead of its time.” adds Scott Kinney.

USA Today editors got their hands on the 2014 script, so You can read some excerpts on their website. They come across as a relatively faithful adaptation of Square Enix and Eidos Montréal’s successful Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which acts as a free prequel to the original. God Former 2000. Today, many fans consider Human Revolution one of the best games in the series., perhaps the best, if, of course, we omit the cult original, which had an extremely large impact on the entire gaming industry. That’s why the qualities of the first Eidos Montréal studio were so amazing and so enjoyable. And that’s why a film adaptation made sense in a time of critical and commercial success for the game.

Adam Jensen, his relationship with Dr. Megan Reid, the attack on Sharif Industries with the subsequent alleged death of Megan and the serious injury of Jensen, augmentation, mercenaries Jaron Namir, Elena Fedorova and Lawrence Barrett… Everything that has a big role in Deus Ex: Human Revolution is clearly present in the script, and many of the events are the same as in the game template.. Or at least similar enough. There is also the Daedalus project, propaganda announcer Eliza Kassan, who is actually an artificial intelligence, or a dog named Kubrick, who, by the way, got into the game Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy by Eidos Montréal.

It is quite possible, for this closeness to the original, that all changes and versions of the script have been sent for approval and consultation directly to the Eidos Montréal studio. Direct contact and cooperation of the creators of the film adaptation with the authors of the play is not so common. According to Kinney, the developers of the entire project were also enthusiastic, and this is the most tragic thing about its cancellation.

Some parts of the original story even needed to get more space., for example, The Hive nightclub and its owner, Tong Si Hoon. Also, the script writers apparently tried to incorporate iconic elements into it, such as topless Jensen sitting down with a glass of whiskey or famous replica “I never asked for this.” And while it’s a part of the script that isn’t one of the most successful, it seems like typical Hollywood cliches and, most importantly, doesn’t make much sense in the context of the film.

One of the biggest differences between a film adaptation and a game master is that Adam Jensen himself decided to install augmentationso he can better avenge Megan’s death. In the game, he is so severely injured in the attack on Sarif Industries at the beginning of the story that he can only survive through extensive surgery to replace Adam’s overly destroyed body parts with modern augmentations. And without Jensen’s consent.

The comment on the address of the actors can also cause some confusion. The project never got to the stage where casting really needed to be done. However, Scott Kinney said that if it were up to him, he would like to see him as Lawrence Barrett. Stephen Lang (avatar) bye Bradley Cooper (American sniper) would be his Adam Jensen. Of course, there would be nothing wrong with Lang as Barrett. Although he was the one who caused Jensen the most serious injuries, the game was more like a second-rate villain and the first real boss. But he could be Adam Jensen’s main enemy in the film, and Stephen Lang would fit in well.

But Bradley Cooper, like Adam himself, is a special choice. Not only because we all associate Adam Jensen’s character with the distinctive voice of actor and drummer Elias Toufexis. It’s hard to tell if Toufexis would drag out the lead role in an expensive film, studios tend to want big names and familiar faces, but we’re sure fans will be screaming very loudly after his cast.

To make things worse it did not have an R rating as the film was made before the big success of Deadpool. and other films intended for an adult audience. However, Deus Ex would certainly fit the Rk rating. But still the fact remains that most of the script works very well and feels like a movie act, which probably won’t offend fans of the game template.. So it’s a pity that we will never see the result. We never asked for a Deus Ex movie, but now we are very sorry that it will remain an unfinished business of the past.

By the way The same fate befell the game story of Adam Jensen.. After the success of Human Revolution, we now have a comic Children’s Crusademobile spin-off Deus Ex: Fall or books Icarus effect And Black light. The second book was even published thanks to the Baronet publishing house in our country under the name Deus Ex: Black Light, albeit with a not very good translation. However, in 2016, we basically got a full-fledged sequel called Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which took place in a futuristic Prague. However, the acceptance of Mankind Divided was tepid critically and commercially than Human Revolution, which was one of the reasons why Publisher Square Enix freezes Deus Ex. And this despite the fact that the game did not have a normal ending. So we still don’t know what happened to Adamemen Jensen. and how the direct connection of his time with the era of the original Deus Ex and the law of the forgotten sequel will take place Deus Ex: The Invisible War 2003.

Meanwhile, Eidos Montréal was moved to develop Shadow of the Tomb Raider and especially Marvel comics, which were to be created based on a new agreement between the famous comic book publisher and Square Enix. In this way the developers helped with the failed multiplayer action Avengers Marvel and created the already mentioned and cursed Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy. So the Deus Ex and Marvel brands are, from some perspectives, much more connected than you might think. While Deus Ex is on ice due to Square Enix’s deal with Marvel, Deus Ex died so that Marvel’s Doctor Strange could be born.. We are sure that Adam Jensen, in the voice of Elias Toufexis, would have commented on such irony with some rather caustic remark. One of them is already attacking us – “Yes, RIP.”
