At Warner Bros. are celebrating the success of Hogwarts Legacy, an RPG set in the mad world of Harry Potter, but at the same time they have company headache by MultiVersus. This free fighting game has lost a significant part of the players.
When MultiVersus launched last July, it became an instant phenomenon, amassing over 10 million players before exiting public beta. Later, the publisher boasted that the open beta was attended by up to 20 million players. But as it turns out now the name may not interest the players.
According to SteamDB, about a thousand players are playing the game at the same time in recent days. At the same time, during its heyday, it amounted to more than 153 thousand. There were exactly 1220 players in the game on Steam in the last 24 hours. In recent days, it has become clear that MultiVersus on PC has lost over 99% of its players (compared to launch in July).
The situation is not happy even on consoles. According to True Achievements, only about 4% of gamers have launched the game on Xbox consoles in the past week. Precisely because of this far beyond the top 100 most played games on Microsoft consoles.
The reason for the large outflow of players is negative reception of the second season. It featured only one new character (Marvin the Martian) and five new fighters (Rick, Morty, Gizmo, Stripe and Black Adam) arrived in MultiVersus in the first season. The third season was supposed to be released this week, but the developers from Player First Games decided to postpone it until the end of March. They have stated that they want to give players more time to complete the current Battle Pass.
Criticism is also aimed at microtransactionswhich makes it impossible to unlock some cosmetic items in classic gameplay and can cost €15 (355 CZK) apiece.
